Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
“Righteousness means … not merely right conduct, but right thinking on all subjects, in every department of life… If it were possible for us to affect externals directly without changing our thought, it would mean that we could think one thing and produce another; and this would be contrary to the Law of the Universe. Indeed, it is just this very notion which is the basic fallacy that lies at the root of all human trouble—all sickness and sin, all strife and poverty….”
—Emmet Fox
To Fox’s right conduct and right thinking I would add right visioning. I would, in fact, place right visioning before either of these. External conditions that are unique to each individual are clearly tied to the way the individual thinks. Because of this obvious connection, thinking is often seen as a cause; and so it is. Our lines of thinking, however, are effects generated by the vision each person holds of themselves. You and I think from the vision we carry. To hunger and thirst after righteousness leads us past thinking and directly to this vision, but we don’t stop here. Only as you hunger and thirst after the vision God holds of you does the true filling begin.
Paul made a powerful statement when he wrote, “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5). This is different than attempting to think and act like Jesus. To have the same mind as Jesus is to carry the same vision that he gained from his times of inner receptivity that led to his spiritual rebirth. Jesus had no greater access to God than you and me. He simply hungered and thirsted for an understanding of his spiritual Source.
You are a spiritual being. Your very essence is unseen, existing beneath the threshold of your thought. Seek an understanding of this deeper level with all your mind, heart and soul and you will be filled with new understanding, new inspiration and new and more meaningful sense of purpose in life.
